MMPowerment is a Geelong-based organization offering a diverse range of supportive programs for both young people and adults, from Boxing and Muay Thai to low-stress movement, social nights, community access, arcade-based connection space, and ACT-informed wellbeing activities, all designed to build confidence, resilience, and help individuals thrive.
We have recently expanded into a brand-new facility, featuring arcade games, pool table, foosball, giant chess, air hockey, art space, play area and other low-stress movement areas designed to help young people (and now adults) feel comfortable, engaged and supported.
With ongoing participation, the aim is to support each person in developing emotional intelligence and a strong personal safety plan, learning how to manage unhelpful thoughts and feelings, read their body signals, and confidently articulate their emotions.
We provide Community Access services and respite for NDIS and government funded participants, alongside our therapeutic movement programs. MMPowerment offers services for both young people and adults, creating a safe, inclusive environment for all individuals to grow, connect and build confidence.
Learning Muay Thai and Boxing skills from a professional, while having real conversations about life’s challenges, can be a powerful way to manage overwhelming emotions. We all face moments where we feel stuck, hopeless, or backed into a corner. At MMPowerment, we offer a different path.
Our programs combine movement, conversation, and emotional development to help people face life’s struggles with confidence. Boxing and Muay Thai create a healthy outlet for the big emotions we carry, while our ACT-informed discussions teach practical ways to handle unhelpful thoughts and feelings.
Suppressing emotions only makes them stronger. That’s why we focus on expression, not avoidance. Through guided movement, ACT strategies, and supportive conversations, participants learn to recognize what’s going on inside and how to respond in healthier ways.
Alongside the training space, our new MMPowerment Arcade & Connection Zone offers low-stress activities like pool, foosball, giant chess, air hockey, board games and relaxed social areas. These spaces allow young people and adults to unwind, build social confidence, and connect in a safe, comfortable environment without pressure.
Whether through movement or conversation, MMPowerment provides a supportive environment that helps individuals build resilience, emotional awareness, and a sense of belonging, giving them tools they can carry into everyday life.
ACT (Acceptance & Commitment Therapy) is a practical, evidence-based approach that helps people handle difficult thoughts and feelings, build emotional resilience, and take meaningful action toward the life they want.
ACT doesn’t try to get rid of emotions, instead, it teaches people how to make room for them, understand them, and respond in healthier ways. It’s about learning skills that help you stay grounded, think clearly, and move forward, even when life gets tough.
ACT fits perfectly with MMPowerment because it works naturally alongside movement and Boxing.
The 6 Core Principles of ACT
1. Acceptance
Allowing thoughts, feelings, and sensations to be there without fighting them.
2. Cognitive Defusion
Learning to “unhook” from unhelpful thoughts. Rather than believing everything your mind says, you learn to notice thoughts and let them pass without getting hooked by them.
3. Being Present (Mindfulness)
Focusing on the here and now. This helps calm the mind, improve awareness, and reduce overwhelm, especially during stress.
4. Self-as-Context (The Observing Self)
Understanding that you are not your thoughts or feelings.
5. Values
Knowing what truly matters to you. Values guide behavior, decision-making, and the type of person you want to be.
6. Committed Action
Taking steps toward your goals and values, even when things feel difficult. This is about building habits, taking responsibility, and choosing actions that move your life towards the person you want to be.
